Kristen is an Assistant Professor of Social Welfare at Stony Brook University. She is a community organizing scholar and practitioner studying methods to increase support for racial and social justice policies, including abolitionist policies. She has an interdisciplinary background with extensive training in the Race, Ethnicity, and Politics subfield of Political Science and an anti-racist research agenda focused on building knowledge to inform macro social work practice. Kristen’s organizing homes include Showing Up for Racial Justice, White People 4 Black Lives, and the Reform LA Jails / Measure R Ballot Initiative. She is a University of Wisconsin alum and first learned how to organize through work with immigrants and refugees, LGBTQ youth, and unhoused communities in Madison, Wisconsin.
