Patty Cisneros Prevo
Position title: Diversity & Inclusion Manager

Patty Cisneros Prevo has always centered her work around diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Cisneros Prevo was the Assistant Director of Inclusion & Engagement with Wisconsin Athletics, where she assisted in the development of the DEI Strategic Plan. In her recent role as the Diversity & Inclusion Manager for the Wisconsin School of Business, Cisneros Prevo spearheaded all DEI initiatives in the Undergraduate Program. And, she looks forward to her new role in the new year as Program Manager, DEI with UW-Health. Cisneros Prevo is contracted with Lee & Low Books and will have her first picture book published in Spring 2023. Tenacious: Fifteen Adventures Alongside Disabled Athletes focuses on 15 disabled individuals and their major life and athletic accomplishments. In January 2021, Cisneros Prevo was also appointed to the Congressional Commission on the State of the U.S. Olympics & Paralympics.Three-time Paralympian Cisneros Prevo was captain of the 2008 Paralympic team and led Team USA to its second consecutive gold medal after winning gold in 2004.
Presentation Title: An Introduction to Disability Justice
Presentation Description: In this session, participants will learn about some of the roots of the disability justice movement and discover key moments in disability justice activism. We will delve into the 10 Principles of Disability Justice as defined by Patty Berne and other disability activists. Presenters will also share personal experiences to build on our understanding of the 10 Principles. We will identify common language that may be ableist, as well as microaggressions used toward disabled individuals. Throughout out the session we will discuss ways to disrupt ableism to affect change.
