Melissa Sanchez is a reporter at ProPublica, a national non-profit investigative news organization. She is reporting an ongoing series of stories on immigrant dairy workers in the Midwest, with a particular emphasis on Wisconsin, along with her colleague Maryam Jameel. Melissa’s work at ProPublica has largely focused on immigrants and labor, including investigations into conditions for immigrant children and adolescents in federal custody, immigrant teenagers working in Chicago-area factories, and how language barriers in the child welfare system have separated families. Her work has been recognized by several local and national awards. She is the daughter of immigrants from Mexico and El Salvador, and grew up speaking Spanish. She lives in Chicago.
