Dr. Sherri Simmons-Horton
Dr. Sherri Simmons-Horton is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Simmons-Horton has over 20 years of practice experience in the child welfare system, with a focus on addressing racial disparities present for Black children, youth, and families. Dr. Simmons-Horton’s research focuses on youth involved in the juvenile justice and foster care systems (dual-status youth), with a focus on racial barriers for Black youth, and resilience of Black youth and families. Dr. Simmons-Horton sits on the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services’ Advisory Committee on Promoting Adoption of Minority Children, serving the needs of Black and other youth of color waiting for permanent homes.
