Dr. Sakara Wages is a Subversive Social Worker, researcher, and lecturer dedicated to dismantling coloniality within American institutions. Her research, rooted in Critical Theory, emphasizes the importance of lived experiences as vital sources of knowledge. Her teaching centers those in the margins, having taught a range of subjects, from Social Welfare to Women and Gender Studies to Race, Class, and Gender in America. Dr Wages is also passionate about Black Histories, having researched and written extensively about the ways Black women supported the survival of Black people before and after abolition. Dr. Wages honors that legacy of Black Women in the Helping Tradition by engaging in Black-Serving Social Work at Our Spot Pville, a community gathering space that she founded and operates in the tradition.
