Eleni Zimiles, LCSW (she/they) is a social worker, educator, and organizer passionate about cultivating community sites for individual and societal transformation. For the past 10 years, Eleni has provided clinical support, staff training, and family advocacy within NYC schools. They currently work for the Department of Education at Newcomers, a high school created for recently arrived immigrant students. Eleni’s career is grounded in two decades within racial justice movement spaces. Eleni has supported the development of anti-racist political education and healing-centered, relational organizing models for a variety of advocacy and organizing groups in NYC. Eleni currently co-leads Mandated Reporters Against Mandated Reporting, a national group that organizes social workers and mental health providers in unlearning reporting culture and addressing the harms of the family policing system. Eleni is an adjunct professor at Columbia School of Social Work and Touro Graduate School of Social Work. They received their MSW from Columbia University and a BA from Macalester College. Eleni is a proud fifth generation Brooklynite and newly learning the ropes of parenthood.
